Walter Ranch Horses
Our Broodmares and Breeding Program
Our mares are carefully selected to fit our program. Most we have raised and/or ridden for many years. We place great emphasis on disposition, trainability, and efficiency. Our mares are easy keepers that can live happily in large group pastures year round, but have the pedigree and quality to go show when we have the time. We have a busy family, so our riding horses get put on the backburner sometimes, so our mares need to have a temperament that allows them to handle periods of rest and the ability to come back into work without a fuss.
When we do have time to go show, we want to ride a horse that makes us smile and enjoy the ride. All of the breeding choices we make are to produce foals we would be proud to keep and ride ourselves. Our goal is to maintain a mare herd that allows us to consistently produce foals that will be versatile ranch horses for the entire family. They have the pedigree and natural ability to flourish if kept in training, but the temperament to also tolerate being brought along and maintained by an experienced amateur. They can work for you around the ranch all week, and go show on the weekend. We typically select stallions we know personally and have handled extensively, choosing crosses that add athleticism while preserving the trainable temperaments we rely on.
After retaining our early foal crops to ride and show ourselves before selling, we now have horses succeeding in a variety of homes. Our program has produced family ranch horses, breakaway futurity prospects, rope horses, and ranch versatility competitors.
With my background and advanced degrees in mare and foal nutrition, I ensure all horses are maintained on a premium feeding program and kept current with AAEP-recommended vaccination and deworming protocols. Our focus is lifelong soundness and health, supported by quality nutrition, attentive care, and ample turnout. We strive to raise horses that will be your favorite mount for the entire family to enjoy.
We would love to talk to you more about our program and a prospect that could work for you. Contact Kelly Walter at 706-247-4419 for more information.
